8/19/2023 0 Comments Patina brass with vinegar![]() ![]() ![]() I'm thinking, as I'm sure you suspected, that getting the colour of the bright area the same as the rest, in nigh to impossible. (This method also works on corroded brass. Spread the mixture on the brass and allow it to sit for a few minutes. Now I'm thinking that I'll try to blend the edges of the light, area with polishing, so that the transition won't be noticeable, but I'm not sure how I'll do that. Mix together 1/2 cup of vinegar, a teaspoon of salt, and a sprinkling of flour until it forms a paste. To make the mixture, simply combine equal parts of each ingredient and apply it to the area with a toothbrush or sponge. Unlacquered brass should generally be soaked in vinegar, while lacquered brass can be spot cleaned with a rag. Salt, vinegar, baking soda, and flour Using just a few household ingredients, you can solve this issue with a cleaning solution made from salt, white vinegar, baking soda, and flour. Lacquered and unlacquered, however, do require different cleaning methods. So I tried to polish it down to a lighter shade but was not able to get an even colour, so I'm back to square one. Brass can be cleaned with vinegar if it gets dirty, smudged, or stained. I tried the egg thing and it did darken the area in question, quite a bit. Maybe try the egg trick: put a little dab of crushed hard-boiled egg on the bright spot put a sandwich bag or ziploc bag over the ball, and see what you have the next morning. i put the cymbal in the sun and sprayed it and let it dry in the sun. i took a small spray bottle and mixed vinegar, a little water and a good deal of salt together. i did a cymbal a while back for the same purpose and it turned out great and was easy. Set this container aside for a while, maybe overnight, to allow the patina to develop. 4: Put the charms in the container and put the lid on. 2: Add a dash of vinegar to the paper towel. Given time, the difference will disappear - but you can speed it up. if it is raw brass and not cleared or coated i might be able to help. Follow these steps to add patina to your brass charms: 1: Put the paper towel in the container. If we assume that you used fine enough sandpaper to give roughly the same surface smoothness as the rest of the ball & bed though, it can be made okay. ![]() Wipe both sides of your bracelet with these ammonia-soaked paper towels. Soak them with ammonia, and sprinkle salt generously on top. Cooking ingredients like salt, baking soda or flour can also help you make a fine scrub or paste that removes brass patina cleanly and efficiently. If they match in one lighting scenario, or viewed from a certain angle, they are sure to not match under different lighting or viewed from a different angle. I used this fuming method to create the rustic patina on my brass bracelet: Place wadded-up paper towels in the bottom of your plastic grocery container. Unfortunately, roughly sanded and polished anythings will never match because the perceived color of something is a complex issue based on actual tints or pigments, plus refractions and interferences, plus surface topography. ![]()
